Take the tops to a metal fab shop. They can use a plasma cutter and produce 
smooth holes in no time.  Ask them if they have a template for a 6" hole, if 
not look around for something round ( pipe ) .  

A few dollars spent now will save lots of time ( 10 units,  probably 1 hr of 
shop time, ~ 40.00 ), sometimes it is not worth fighting grinders, tinsnips, 
saw blades and such.
