Sorry, I don't agree.  Some grades of nylon will absorb moisture from the
air, but since the nuts are exposed to the air on the shelf, they will have
reached equilibrium long before being installed.

I have some that are so bad, I can turn them by hand.

I won't disagree with that, except to note that there were no Grade 8 nyloc
nuts originally used on a Triumph.  And, if the nut comes off, it doesn't
matter how strong it is ...
