Transmission oil

Hi all,
        I was down in Connecticut the last week dropping off a transmission
at Quantum Mechanics.  When the discussion turned to what kind of oil to use
in your transmission John Esposito recommended 30, or in a pinch, 40 weight
non detergent oil.  As evidenced on my transmission John said the synthetic
transmission fluids (we were talking Redline) are too thin and over time
leak trough the seals.  FWIW.
