Subject: [TR] why gas & exhaust on same side?

How could Triumph put the TR3A's gas line leaving the tank directly above
the exhaust line? Or do I have something out of order?
Back then folks weren't suit prone, and maybe stock gas lines didn't
ever leak, but it sounds like a bad design.
I may choose to put my exhaust line on the passenger side of the rear of
the car (I have a LHD car) or I may have my gas line changed to the
passenger's side because of this.
This last idea would require someone to braze the exisiting drain (since
it looks corroded and leak prone) and use the 'plugged' side of the tank for
my rubber fuel line. Any comments?
Thanks,
Paul Dorsey
