I thought I would share with you that it is possible to use a J type overdrive
from a Volvo in a TR6. Some said no, some said itbs not worth it.
We took
the J type out of the 6 by disconnecting it from the adapter plate.
This
entailed removing the exhaust, mounting plate and forward part of the drive
shaft.
The Volvo had no Speedo drive so we had to swap out the rear annulus.
We also had to swap out the rear flange.
As we did not remove the entire
gearbox we could not perform the pressure tests. So we just bolted it back in
place and ran the motor with the rear wheels off the ground. It worked great.
Volvo J type was 60.00
Oil was about 25.00
Gaskets 15.00
Total cost was around
100.00
