Did you retract the brake shoe star adjusters all the way in? You might want to take the threaded end off of it, clean the threads of both sides, and you may be able to adjust it a little further. O

A socket can be used, just use a larger 12 point as opposed to a 6 point socket. Normally a 6 pointer grabs better, but this is the best use of a 12 point socket I can think of. All The Best! George
