- Probably starts on #1 and #3, then at higher rpm the other cylinders have enough compression to fire. But just 1 & 3 would be enough to run (although not well). After all, that should give you half

- I'd start by pulling the timing chain cover and checking for a broken tensioner, a slipped chain, worn out gears etc. The rattle you describe could be bits of the tensioner and if the chain slipped

- Update and more questions If you remember I ran a compression check on the engine the results came out: 115 30 155 0 Well the valves were way out of adjustment and that is now rectified. I can measur

- Indeed, that's pretty good, only about 7% plus or minus. Unlikely to be the crank itself, IMO. Have you checked out the rubber bushings for the fan ? They could cause both the looseness and the ratt
