As a side comment, I've learned that the active ingredient in Millers VSP-Plus (which I've not been able to buy in the US) is MMT, which is also the active ingredient in Outlaw Racing Formula octane

The active ingredient in most octane boosters is toluene. You can buy a gallon of toluene at the hardware store (in the paint department) for a lot less than you can buy a can of octane booster... -E

Note that the same article says that a pint of Toluene will only raise octane by a few tenths of an octane point, eg from 92 to 92.3. Even mixing 10% (eg a gallon of toluene in 9 gallons of premium)
