How tight should the front axle-nut be torqued on my BN1? The manual states that the nut should be tightened until a slightly increased resistance is felt when the hub is turned. The manual goes on t

If you have the early BN1 bearing set up it uses inner and outer single ball thrust bearings with a precisely machined spacer between them. With this spacer you shouldn't be able to overtighten the

The inner race on the BN1 can be very difficult to get off. The only way I found to get it off will result in destroying the bearing race, so you need to get some new bearings before getting started

Only the very early BJ8's used the same front hub / bearing assembly as the earlier cars. Later BJ8's used a different set-up, including different swivel axles, bearings, shims, calipers, etc. The p

While we are on the subject, what is so different about the Healey taperd wheel bearings. Millions of cars have tapered bearings with no spacers & no shims. The outer nut is just snugged down & then

Hi Michael, Thanks for the info. Seems to me that in order for the spacer to contribute much to rigidity, it would have to be in compression quite a bit, or the axle in tension, much more than the us

I have to agree about the structural question, but have some further comments on the spacer issue. First I think the distance piece and shims were included as much because it was the Austin standard
