Chris, its my understanding that you don't change, or cannot, change the gear. I was told they were all the same. You must change the speedo. I went through this when I changed drivetrains to OD. Un

I hope this applies only to the early o/d transmissions, as I've been told you don't have to change anything to install a later o/d transmission (all-synchro), a la 72-73. ??? JK

The black label (pre-75) and blue label (post 75) LH ODs had different drive gears. The down side is that to change them you have to take the tranny/OD nearly completely apart. I'd find another speed

I recently aquired an MGB O/D transmission also. The unit is from a 79 B; I am planning on installing it in a 73 MGB. I did a bit of research on the swap and here is what I have found from various s

I don't think that you can swap pinions. I've heard that they get chewed up. I have recently purchased a O.D. transimssion from a '70B. I am planning to install it in my '77. I am hoping that someone

Now I assume the entire cable and speedometer must be replaced. You can't use the non-o/d speedometer and just mentally extrapolate the speed? Damn, I wish I'd known this before. My usually reliable

Chris, I just installed a '72 overdrive in my '74B. Once the unit was in I discovered that the drive gear and pinion assy wasn't working. I checked all the usual places to find a new replacement, and

I bought a blue label OD gearbox, probably from an 1975 B, having the 'wrong' speedo gear ratio for my 1970 MGB. You and I, we both need to change both the pinion gear AND the ring gear inside the O

Bert makes a VERY good point here. One of the pinions has 20 teeth, the other 21. Don't think that you fix the problem by swapping pinions. What you will do is tear up both gears, and they are gettin

John, For my 1970 B, the correct type indication would be: Pinion - Speedo - 21 teeth (white), # 37 H 3463 Gear - Speedo Drive - 8 teeth (blue), # 37 H 3464, NLA (NLA = No Longer Available, an alas,
