If your car is fitted with one of those "Viscous Coupling" fan assemblies, this might be the source of your noise. From what you say, it appears that it may be related to the fan since it appears on

I agree with Joe. My fan clutch went south on my 75 Spit and made the same type of noises while doing so.Check your fan for any play and if you have much this could well be the problem. Lots of luck

It's in your owners manual if you have one, it should also be in the Haynes manual. Basically you put a few drops of oil on the center post (after removing the rotor) and there should be a small hole

I'll second the water pump as a possible source. I had a similar noise in my GT6, and when I finally tracked it down, the water pump pully was visibly discovering new ways to go around in a circle. M
