If you replaced the tach and the cable and still get the same problem (unless you have an amazing coincidence) it would stand to reason that the only thing left to cause the problem is the drive gea

Did you just replace the inner cable and not the sheath? If so, the sheaths get damaged and can bind the cable. If you replaced them both, how did you route it? If you imparted any tight bends, you c

As it turns out it is an amazing coincidence. I have three GT6 tachometers and all three were bouncing all over the place. I pulled the distributor and removed the drive gear. Tachometer drive gear

Are you sure it's not the usual symptom, which is too much runout in the tachometer cable? Having the spare tach hooked up "under the bonnet" is not a fair test, because without the corners and twist
