Kai:

I can sense your frustration. I've purchased over 80 cars in my life, and
I've passed up quite a few for this same reason. People who are not "car
people" will do this to sell a car. About 10 years ago, I decided never again
to buy a car that came from anywhere but the west coast, specifically
California. There cars are plentiful, and rust is rarely a problem. The money
you spend for the journey more than covers the cost you save in body repairs.
I used to fly to CA annually with a sack of cash, check into a motel, then
get out the want ads, look at a few cars, and make a purchase. I'd then drive
the 2000+ miles back to Chicago. Never had a mechanical breakdown, and I
never had to buy body panels, floor pans, and the like. Mechanical work is
easy, body work is tricky. If you're to buy a car from the east, make sure
it's from the West originally-you'll save yourself a lot of grief in the long
run!
I eventually moved to Los Angeles to save myself the expense of the long
travel times... Do you need any of us out here in CA to look at a car for you?
Just ask!
