Don,

I use the XR3000 on my car with a Lucas sport coil.  The XR700 requires you to 
leave the resistor wire in place (lowered voltage).  The XR3000 is designed to 
be used without the resistor wire (full 12 volts).  I used the XR700 on an MGB 
with the stock coil (and resistor wire in place) and found it to work very 
well.
