        If things are as worn as you make them sound, then replacing the
rocker shaft should on the list of things to do. Probably already was,
but I thought I would mention it anyway...
        As far as the ceramic coating of stainless goes, it is gilding
the lily. I had some Edelbrock mild steel headers ceramic coated, and
they were indestructible under normal usage. Not a spec of rot anywhere
after 4 years. They were coated inside and out, however. So if you are
only going to coat the outside, don't bother, since they rot from the
inside anyway. In that case, stainless makes sense. But if they are
fully coated, stainless is redundant, imho.

Last night I finally removed the head in a quest to discover the lack of

compression. Most of the intake valves had a huge carbon build up on
them, 
especially on the number one cylinder which was preventing it from
closing properly. 
One of the valves had oil pooling on it. My guides are the most likely
culprit 
and will need replacing. I have decided to go with Richard Good's valve 
guides and seals. Does any one have any experience with these?

The tops of the valve stems were starting to mushroom from the pounding
of 
the rockers. The excess had to be filed off to pull the valve stem
through the 
guide. The tips of my rockers look battered as well.
I also feel it's time to upgrade to roller rockers and if I will buy
them 
from Jim Swarthout if I can get ahold of him.

The tops of the pistons also have a nice coating of carbon. Does any one
have 
any suggestions on the best way to remove the carbon deposits? Does
varsol 
and steel wool do the job?

Now that it's apart I am also thinking of replacing my old battered
header 
with a new ceramic coated header. My current header (Pacesetter) was a
nightmare 
to install with fitting and refitting taking hours of time. Any 
recommendations on SS headers?
Is there any benefit to going SS if they are going to be ceramic coated?
