As Todd says the welds are pretty much where you see them -- on the bottom. The 
frame was off when 
we did mine. I would think the upper cruciform (T shirt) would hold things 
together.

When the lower cruciform was removed we welded additional plates on the 
vertical sides of the frame 
rails (inside the cruciform area). The hope was to strengthen the frame in that 
area. The frame is 
still off, so not sure how it worked.

I bought my new cruciform from Moss. Seemed to be of good quality.
