Erik Strelnieks writes, in a very lame attempt to defend himself of this
accusation that he is a GAMBLING JUNKEE...

>That would be the winner and the runner up in SS who are casino
>junkies...isn't the right "Blackjack" Levarone!!!!

Oh my gosh, um, hello, PLEASE. Let me just tell all you people out there
that not only is Erik Strelnieks a gambling junkee, he tried to lure ME down
that same addictive road.

It was the Wendover ProSolo of '98. Beth McClure and I were co-driving Legal
Lucy, my Miata. I go up to their hotel room in the Silversmith to meet them
for dinner. This is Saturday night. I'm greeted at the door by Beth, who
beckons me to enter the room. They're watching horse racing on the
television, the first sign. Eric hands me a bag filled with quarters. "What
kind of person collects quarters?" I ask myself, as we wander down to the
restaurant to meet the rest of our autocrossing friends.

After dinner (can you say KENO?), we enter the main gambling floor. There
are thousands of slot machines, Black Jack tables, bad lounge singers, you
name it. Eric says, "Come on, Katie. Try it!"

"No way, man. I don't mess around with this stuff."

"Come on! Everyone's doing it!"

Well, he DID give me the quarters. Felt like twenty pounds worth.

I'm not going to tell the whole story, but Beth and I both were suddenly
drawn to this purple BMW Z3 roadster. "We have GOT to win this car," we
agreed.

"Yeah, and then we'll go race it tomorrow."

"Yeah, yeah, and everyone will say, 'Hey, where'd you get that cool car!'"

"Yeah, and then we'll WIN!"

I bet the whole bag, and made like hundreds and hundreds of quarters. It was
the only thing I won that weekend.

Well, this story isn't really going anywhere, so I'm just going to stop. But
don't let Erik trick you into thinking he doesn't have a problem. Denial is
the first sign.

Now, I don't have a problem. I am FINE.

By the way, that purple BMW is still in that blasted Casino in Wendover. I
saw it on my return trip from Topeka. And NO, I didn't try to win it - just
get off my back!

Katie K.
