It WAS supercharged.  The supercharger was powered by a turbine in the
exhaust system.  This was called turbo-supercharging.  It is now usually
called turbocharging.

Using mechanical means to pack more combustion air into an engine is
supercharging.  The use of the term "turbocharged" is now so common that
people often assume that "supercharging" refers only to the use of a
supercharger powered by the engine crankshaft.
