A further variant would be oil consumption per 100 miles.  This measure is
not necessarily one of burning oil either.  Suffice it to say that my
winter Mini would never rust in the front end if it sat on a seawall for
the next twenty years.

For those interested in a recent Land Rover accident, a friend in Boston
was recently rear ended by a large 1992 F series pick-up truck.  The
pick-up nose dived under his rear end resulting in his diff getting
cracked (not to worry, he has plenty more).  The pick-up wasn't so lucky.
It was completely written off.  The rear bumper of the LR carved the
hood/bonnet back, hit the head of the engine driving it back too, and
sealed both doors closed on the pick-up.  The LR should be back on the road
in the near future.
