Mike,
Isn't the fire hose covered with a cloth or fiber material as well.  Unless
it was all rubber, it would soak up water just like the original felt
pads.  I have just removed the body from the frame on my 67.5 and was
thinking of using a thin piece of rubber material as an insulator between
the body and frame.  I thought that the fiber material was mostly an anti
squeek type mateial so the body parts don't rub metal to metal.  Seems as
though rubber would be a much better replacement.
