The gadget that I was talking about is called a Battery Extender, made by
Auto Meter. Jeg's part number is 105-9201, price is $63. Plugs into a
regular 110 volt wall outlet and " is a charger/maintainer".
While $63 may seem a bit steep at first, if I'd used one of these, I
probably would not have had to trash two three batteries over the past year
or so.
