Mike,
On my 66 2" will slip right through the driver's side - 2.5" needs a bit of
flattening. I was down at Jim Sloan's race barn, and we were looking at a
later frame and it appears they made the openings smaller on the later cars.

I've had discussions with a local hot rod guru ( he's been building race
proven motors & cars for many moons), as well as the folks at Clifford
performance and Headers by Ed with the result that I'm convinced of the
proper sizing for the "R" with the V6 - 1-5/8" primary tubes, 3 into 1,
2.25" collector, reduced to 2" duals to the rear, just ahead of the axle,
where they will join in a flowed "Y" into a single 2" and out a 2"x17"
Supertrapp. I was thinking of going dual out the back, but the same guys I
talked with said by the time the gases have travel that far, they will have
cooled and condensed enough for the low-restriction 'trapp on a single pipe
to do it.. I'm going to make the "Y" using my tubing notcher.

All three sources warned against going too large - too much volume reducing
bottom end power. Funny thing was, when I was at the local shop having the
tailpipe bent up, there was a kid in there asking about a 3.5" exhaust for
his rusty, ricey Civic ;>

I haven't modfied the passenger side of the x yet, because in need the
header collectors to see where the exhaust can be routed. I'm STILL waiting
for the collectors I ordered back on Jan 28th from Clifford. Finally got to
the bottom of it today - my order was processed and billed to my cc, but the
butthead in purchasing never ordered them from a sub-supplier. Took asking
for the owner to get it resolved - he's having the shop guys cut the
collectors off a set of heeader they have in stock and is FEDEXing them to
me so I'll have em for this weekend.
