These outriggers stick out from the frame rail much less than on the later TR4
chassis, and they put an adapter bracket on each of them to get the hole pattern
out to where the body bolts on.

Some cursory checking via telephone with two of us using tape measures indicates
that the width of the chassis over the outside of the frame is the same as the
TR4.

I'm puzzled as to why they did this. Perhaps they had some TR3 chassis welded up
and made these adapter plates up so they could use up the chassis under new
bodies. The adapter plates required a new die to be made -- but I guess that's
cheaper than discarding entire frame.

Now, they could have achieved the TR4's wider track at the rear by just putting
in the new axle, but how would they achieve the wider track at the front without
widening the frame weldment? The A-arms are the same length on the TR3 and the
TR4.

To me, all of this almost lends credence to whoever said that TR3 and TR4 
chassis
are the same -- but I'm still puzzled about how they got the wider front track.

Anybody else ever see this?
