If you are worried about current cars and slicks, I have no problem with the
tread requirement. I currently run slicks and don't think it will be a huge
deal to drop back to DOT tires. Hoosier makes a great DOT Improved Touring
tire that gives great grip. In a four day event, by the third day it will be
a very sticky DOT slick. They are not cheap, but we are talking racing. I
have yet to find anything cheap about racing ;o)
