In a British publication, a gentleman wrote that he had cleaned his gas tank
with a backyard electric cement mixer. He strapped the empty tank to the
mixer, threw in a few pebbles, closed all openings and let it run for several
hours. The "rock tumbler" supposedly dislodged the rust in the tank.

Although the risk is small, it seems that with the "right" conditions, a rock
(particularly a sharp one) could cause a spark and ignite the fumes. Also,
the electric motor on the mixer could be a "spark generator".

What do the knowledgeable souls on the List think. Is there a safety issue?
