Painting Gear Shift Knob

The windows have been reinstalled and are working smoothly. Thanks to
everyone who helped.

 

The pattern on the gear shift knob on my 67 BJ8 is not now painted. Where
they ever?

If so, has anybody tried to fill in the pattern with white paint? What kind
of paint did you use? What method? Paint the whole thing and wipe off what
you don't want?
