What does MG stand for ?

Hi everybody !

I'm new to this list, so let's start right with the basics.
I like MG's, but I have no idea what the two letters MG stand for.
Some unreliable source told me it means Morris Garage.
Unfortunately (intended ?) neither the MG home page on the web nor the
MGF brochure is telling me this secret.
Any help ?
