Thanks everyone for your suggestions on this.  It turned out to be poor spark 
plug wires.  Either that or they didn't have the built in suppressors.  I 
replaced with a new set and wala...no more noise.

I'm not an expert on this, but my Haynes Workshop manual has a very lengthy
discussion on reducing these sorts of noises.  To much for me to type - but
the manuals aren't very expensive.  You can get one from Victoria British
or Moss (or most anywhere else I imagine).
