MGB Water pump pulleys etc. Scratching head.

Early MGB 62-71 use a tall water pump with a deep pressed steel
pulley. 62-67 is a single groove, 68-71 is a two groove to drive the
smog pump. 72-74 the water pump is short and the pulley is a two groove
made from cast iron. Total depth aprox 1 1/2 inch. 74- the pulley is a
two piece stamped steel affair of larger diameter. The water pump is
similar but there is conflicting info on the smog pump mounting pad
height.

Harmonic crank pulleys are the same from 62-74. The later
harmonic pulley is a larger diameter and matches the change in the water
pump pulleys. All are single groove.

There were a number of dealer installed A/C packages which used
replacement drive pulleys to drive the compressor. Many of these
packages were manufactured in the USA. Do not be surprised to find ACME
stamped on an adapter pulley bolted to the oringinal damper.

On the subject of water pumps. MGA, MGB up to 71 water pumps
are not readily available in cast iron. The aluminium ones on the
market work ok, but it may be an idea to have the original cast iron
impeller unit rebuilt.
The short water pump GWP130 is used on the later cars(71-).
It is still available for a reasonable price in cast iron. There is
conflicting info regarding the smog pump mounting height and I need to
do more research on the GWP117 and GWP130 to find out how they change.

        Hope this is of help.

Kelvin.
