It is a bronze type of stuff that is made into a bushing.  It goes in the
end of the crank and the end of the shaft from the transmission rides in
there.  All it does is hold down the end shake.  Some schools hold that
it needs to be soaked in motor oil prior to installation.  I don't know
if this is an absolute but it was the way I was taught so I do it.
