Hi Ben,
  Mine isn't a question of purity, it's a question of practicality.
  Why put locks into the doors of  a fabric-topped car, when the criminal
who wants entry can simply slice the canvas to bit and reach in. The
gentleman criminal, of course, will unsnap the canvas before reaching
into the car, and the stop-light hold-up artist will ask permission to
break and enter.
  Having an MGB with door locks, I never use them. Should there be a
break-in that results in an insurance claim, the owner could fake the
"forced entry", but he has reduced the amount of total damage to the car
by avoiding the locking.

  TD's, by the way, can be started from the driver seat without the
key....
