Erik, can't say if this is absolutely true, but what was considered
DOT 3 back in the day, is now considered DOT4 brake fluid.  I use the
silicone fluid in my car, mainly to avert the potential of spillage
and rust.  It works fine, but does add sponge to the pedal.  I figure,
if I'm going too fast for silicone fluid, then the MGB is definately
going too fast anyway.

Don't take the owner's manual as gospel.  You can put in other
viscosity engine oils into your engine, and you can certainly upgrade
to the DOT4 brake fluid, and some things have changed, since the
manual was written.
