In Ontario in the 60s, we used to leave the engine running at medium
idle all night at the ice races, with regular pit-crew visits to "blow
it out" through the night. Alternatively (some rare times *in addition*)
we had a two-burner hot-plate shoved hard under the sump and plugged in
all night. 10W40 oil is a solid at those temperatures (35-45 below f.).
At 80 below f. brake fuid is a solid and so is the oil in the power
steering. I know from experience. *very scary*
