<BTW, the late OD only operated in 4th gear, for some reason. I've always
wondered why they changed it>

The torque capacity of the small Laycock de Normanville unit fitted to the Bs
was not really up to full throttle acceleration in a lower gear. The ones we
use in racing must be upgraded with larger accumulator pistons, stronger
springs and better linings, OR used only judiciously in top gear.

BTW, the TR3 had a 7 speed box - the OD (a bigger LdeN unit) operated in 2nd,
3rd, and 4th.
