You didn't read his post carefully - he has a 64, which has a banjo style 
rear end - you can NOT just change the half shafts on that rear end as they 
are different lengths. He needs the whole rear axle case and axle shaft/hub 
assemblies. The easiest thing for him to do would be to just bolt his brake 
backing plates onto the new axle and install it.

FYI, the later tube type rear ends also have different widths, although you 
can physically bolt a wire wheel hub extension to the axle shaft, you will 
end up with a wider track and potential clearance problems. Moss apparently 
make a suitable hub extension kit for this, though I don't know the details.
