Sorry to be Mr. Obvious, but if the DPO got the hood opened for you, can't
you call him and ask what his trick is? You are using the right knob.
I've never had this problem, but I remember several listers saying the only
option (and this is gonna hurt)is to cut a couple of slats out of the grille
to get to the release. That's why people install that emergency release
another lister recommended.
I hope someone else has a better idea.
