Someone posted this suggestion just when I was helping a friend do this
very job, and shortly after I had gone through it myself. The snap rings
were a "snap" compared to the funky clips. I would go that way next time.
I don't know why they would rust particularly compared to the clips.
Maybe a little grease wouldn't hurt.
