Thanks to all that responded to my question about painting my engine. I got
many responses. The majority didn't use primer and the paint on their
engines has held up great. I also had many say to use a primer at it
reduces the amount of the colored paint needed to get a good coat on the
engine. The main recommendation from everyone was good preparation. All
the parts must be properly prepared in order to get a good finish, whether
using primer or not.

Hopefully we'll be getting the engine blocks, heads and crank shafts back
from the machine shop tomorrow. The machine shop had to order the proper
cutter to do the hardened valve seats. The cutter is supposed to be in
today so he can finish the heads by tomorrow. If all goes well we'll
rebuild the engines on Saturday then get them painted so they can dry
overnight. Barney, thanks for the great info on your site. I'd probably
have painted the rear cover then wondered why the starter wasn't working
properly.

Again, thanks for all the responses,

Ken
