If all they need is new shaft bushings I'll take them off your hands for
the cost of postage - if you are just going to junk them anyway!

>>Unless someone can tell me why the HIFs are better (a lot of people
have told me to keep the HIFs, but no one has provided a good reason)

Whether they are "better" or not depends upon your judgment, but it
looks like you have the information you need to make that judgment.
It's just that the decision isn't really all that one-sided.

Personally, I would not switch from either type to the other unless
there were a compelling reason. They both are basically the same carb
with the advantages of one or the other being very situational. For
instance, I like being able to fix float problems on the HS roadside -
but how often is that really necessary on a well maintained carb? For
another instance, I like the HIF's resistance to lean condition caused
by g-forces, yet I honestly can't recall that ever happening to one of
my cars with an HS.

As for the poppet-valved butterfly, you can get a replacement sans valve
from Joe Curto for about 20 bucks the pair. Alternatively, you can
remove the poppet per the Burgess book method. If you decide to keep
the HIF's, I think I have brand new set of shafts and bushes that I'll
let go really cheap (I won't need them if you keep your HIF's!).

Cheers,

Dean
