Hi Patrick, Joe and others,
Did you know the Triumph Standard 10 transmission had an all aluminum
one-piece housing and bell. It will bolt right up to a Spitfire engine and
internally is essentially the same as a non-syncro spit transmission. The
main difference is the rear extension part that holds the speedo gear and
mounting brackets. An early spit extension will mount on it. It has a
different type of shifting mechanism, but again, an early spit one will fit.
I purchased it on ebay a month ago, but last week I also bought a 64 E-type
roadster. Needless to say, my Spitfire projects have been put on hold while
I sort out what work needs to be done on the Jaguar.
If anyone is interested in this tranny, make me an offer. I've also got any
early extra spit tranny parts you'd need to make it work. It does have an
area of the bell where it mounts to the engine that is crushed for a couple
inches, but that could be easily fixed. I'd had hoped to see this thing all
buffed out and shiny, but the Jaguar beckons.
