James...do you have the recessed block, or has it been machined flat?
In either case, I'm fairly sure the deck height to edge of the recess is
zero.
BUT it's also VERY likely that the actual tolerance from cyl. to cyl. can
be as much as .015" according to some of the prep manuals.

If you rally need to 'stack' gaskets, you can get a solid copper gasket
in a variety of thickness that is specifically designed for this type of
situation. Although, you wouldn't need to 'stack' gaskets as you can get
them
in thickness' up to I believe about .2" thk
