Hello,
I believe the axle housing for the wire wheel cars is a bit narrower than
that for the solid type, and the axle shafts are shorter to suit. I think
the axle shafts from a solid wheel car are too long to fit in that housing.
A freind of mine just went through this conversion and he had to change the
whole rear axle to fit the solid wheels.

Hi Evangelos,

I'm in the middle of doing the reverse conversion myself (to bad we are
so far off, we could just trade parts).

All you need from a steel wheel car is

wheels
hubs and lugs
new front rotors (get new ones though)
both rear half shafts

I got the whole swivel arm assembly from the front on mine though,
that way, all I had to do was take off the king pin nut (with spring
compressed), remove the brake calipers, and slide everything I needed
right off. The parts yard decided that they would rather save the time
than go through he process of stripping the hub. Lucky me!!!
