Hey guys,

I thought that I would toss my .02 in on this one.

As many of you know I've got myself immerged into Corvairs at the moment,
not because I have left Sprites, but because I decided that we needed a car
for my wife's daily driver that we weren't making payments on. The rebuild
of this cars drivetrain has taken me away from MY car for a couple months,
then I'm back on the Sprite like gangbusters. I've been around here, just
pretty quiet.

It has been interesting observing the similarities/differences between the
two sets of enthusiasts and clubs at the local, national, and internet
levels (the Corvair internet list is a chartered chapter of the national
club). They have bickering between groups just as Healey lovers do.

Anyhow, more to the point. I did decide at the beginning of the year to
remain only a member of one club. I made this decision for a few reasons.

Primarily, neither club spends any great amount of pages towards Sprites
(the reason I was inquiring about SMOG several months back). But AHC-USA
seems be a little better in this respect.

Second is the fact that Mark Allen asked me to join, gave me directions to
contact the local club, and sent me a sample copy of A-H magazine plus an
old calendar. That is a strong incentive alone, especially in the days when
a few of us Sprite guys were trying to be heard in the Big Healey list. It
was easy to get a chip on your shoulder in there when you get an email
asking you to lay of the posts since you are wasting bandwidth with all the
Sprite posts and I should go to the MG list. (That only happened once, and
that was not a common attitude, but it really pissed me off).

Finally, I just couldn't justify the extra money, along with the local club
newsletter, one clubs magazine informs me about what is going on in the
hobby. I can always find something else to spend $35 on. I'm a squarebody
Sprite owner, and I think that by definition that makes me cash conscious.
The Sprite has always appealed to the sports car enthusiast who is concerned
about getting more bang for the buck.

I could talk about what I think about the future of all LBC clubs, and the
steady deterioration of membership, but that is a discussion best left for
another day.

Thanks

Patton

P.S. aren't you MG Midget guys on this list tired of this??
