There is one other situation that ABS is a detriment, although this is wayyy
off of the original topic.  The situation is similar to snow, and that is
off-road 4x4ing down a hill in sand.  It is desirable to lock the wheels to
allow a  mound of sand to build up in front of the wheel to assist with
stopping.
