Jamie, I'm getting the parts from many different places, APT, Summit
Racing, Crane, and on the net.
    Stock power for a 948 is 43hp @ 5k rpm. I also finished a high level
"show" stock rebuild two years ago for close to $3k. That included NOS
steel water pump, lever arm fuel pump, all correct hoses & clamps, and total
rebuild of my 1 1/4" H1 SU's. There are pictures of this engine floating
around on the list.
My local machine shop will do a quality long block for around $1500,
another local shop will also do it for the same amount and it will last 2
months.
The cost difference between doing a 948 and 1275 are nil and if
going to a ribcase your making a big mistake (5- speed is the only way to
go).
Some parts for my rebuild are:
balanced, nitrated, wedged crank $700
belt drive $250
Crane lifters & push rods $160
balanced lightened rods $400
three ring flat top pistons $400
All ARP bolts and nuts/studs $250
Manaflow LCB Jet-hot coated $300
40 dcoe Weber/ cannon manifold/ K&N filter with stacks $500
High-volume oil pump $150
Vandervell bearing shells $90
For a total of $3200 just in these parts.
Add in for extras and machine work I'll be lucky to hold it under $5k.
This will all be in front of a Datsun 5-speed and 4.22 rear.
        I can do a ring/valve & shell rebuild for around $300

If
