My take on the Sprite Blitz weekend..............
Very successfull.
Amy's Sprite looks good now, her shower looks like her Sprite used to.
Amy, not a bad trade huh?
34 years of crude, grease, and grime migrated off Amy's 67 Sprite to our
bodys and then into her shower. We should have signed our bath tub rings
guys.
The best part of the weekend was the smile on Amy's face when she drove
her Sprite around the neighborhood for the first time. This car has not
seen the road for 18 years.
We had a PERFECT pit crew and a wonderful host. No one went hungry,
coffee, soda, and Rolling Rocks never ran out.
Talk about a well oiled machine, the crew managed to work without
getting in each others way, very few cuss words were heard although that
seized bonnet hinge had me saying just a couple. A bigger hammer and new
sawzall blade finally fixed it though.
Amy learned how to change a fan belt, pull a distributor, set points,
change plugs, adjust valves, and replace dizzy wires. She also learned
how to drive a stick for the first time. Yes people, her first lesson
with a clutch was on her Sprite and she is a natural.
>From basket case to a driver needing only some finish body work, paint,
and a top in 2 days was truly amazing. I never had any doubts that it
could not be done. I know some of the listers thought we were nuts but
we proved them wrong.
The Sprite runs perfectly, even the tach works after we converted it
from + to - ground and it is calibrated very close. Only the temp gauge
needs to be replaced and the car will be complete.
Serious problems attacked were fused bonnet hinges, crumpled rear belly
and 1/4 panel, missing lower hinge mounting point and extremely loose
hinge pin, rusted out rockers, ZERO hydraulics, and a rusted clutch to
flywheel. All are history now.
We arrived to a clean house and a messy Sprite.
We left a clean Sprite and a messy house.
I'm sure Amy is scrubing floors and tubs today and when she is done
crusing us out as she trys to make her tub white again, it was a fair
trade off.
