Right you are Gerard. I have found many DPO "improvements" on this car.
He said he "rebuilt"  the brakes. I have adjusted the pushrod at the
master and still have the problem. The clutch pedal will pump up so
that's why I'm going to try bleeding. As far as the release problem I
think Gerard is right in that it's an adjustment issue. In a cursory
inspection I noticed a little play in the pedal movement at the clevis
piece. Could this be only the clevis in worn or does the pedal hole wear
as well?

        True, but the pushrod adjustment at the pedal box will. I have
frequently
        found these to be set up wrong, especially if the DPO has
"rebuilt" any of
        this stuff... Bill's car is a likely candidate for that... right
