Leo, I sure hope you are wrong on this one. I am still ashamed of myself for
suggesting to you at Conclave '99 that J. C. Whitney could supply your
weatherstripping. My own car is not concours, hasn't been since it was two
weeks old, and will not be again in my lifetime and it sports Whitney
weatherstripping, along with a lot of other unoriginal things. Since 1968
the car has been a very modified bugeye "sleeper". I still, however, do
consider it a work of art that I can drive--fast and hard. On the outside it
is still an "original" bugeye with a few minor changes. Sorry Dave Woerpel,
our little one doesn't belong in the concours discussion--it is all Spridget
parts.

At least some of the folks in the concours group are willing to share
sources, etc. with you. At least one California judge was so eager to award
a friend's (of mine) bugeye a gold that he actually scrounged around in his
own stuff to give Joe (not his name) a feeler gage to put in his otherwise
perfect tool kit. Joe had done a stellar job of restoring the bugeye himself,
and the confidence was richly deserved, and deeply appreciated.

As far as the Spridget listers, most of them are more interested in getting a
usable car together then a perfect one. Two who have done it that I know
about are Mike MacLean (not judged), who is really more interested in
performance, at least it seems so, and Larry Dickstein (gold). One of the
reasons I stay out of it, even though some things I know I remember
correctly, is that many of my memories differ with Horler, and frankly I
don't care enough to challenge the authority.
