I don't totally disagree Phil, but I would not reccomend the extended
warrantees. I purchased these for both my 97 Tahoe and 94 F150. Somehow,
every costly thing that has happened was not covered by the warrenty. I wont
be buying one again.

What I have always liked to do, and I fight with the SO on this constantly,
is to trade for a new primary vehicle at about 60,000 miles. You usually get
a good trade about that time, you are not upside down after 3+ years on a 5
year finance, and the likelihood of major mechanical problems is greatly
reduced.

Now I did say, PRIMARY vehicle. I always want one I can jump in and drive
1000 miles and have no concern about getting there. I have my toys and my
pick up that I may or may not feel comfortable taking long trips in...but
they are toys and I live with that.

I realize what this system does is rent a vehicle for yourself for a little
over three years, and no, you will not build any equity this way, but to me
primay transportation vehicles are an expense item, nothing more. At this
point in my life, I figure it cost's me about $450 a month to have a good
vehicle.

The VW wasn't that much, but the new Suburban (Yukon) I am campaining for
will be at least that much.
