Hello spridgets,

  here's a theoretical/practical question

is it better to static time or use a timing light? that is which is
the most accurate, taking into account that centriful advance
changes the readings? and if static is better, where should the
crank be when doing the "spark test"?

or should one keep advancing WITHOUT either until the engine knocks
under load, then back up a tad? that is run as much advance as
  possible.... ...

the considerations are, engine longevity, performance, and fuel
  economy, with longevity being primary!
